Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors last month: Miranda Lynch-Smith, Jon McAvoy, and Trent Smith.
Together, they bring expertise spanning public policy, community impact, finance, and real estate investment that will help advance AHC’s mission and strengthen communities across the region.
The three new Board members join current members Terron Sims, II, Hilary Chapman, Michelle Krocker, Gunnar Branson, Patrick Jordan, Andargachew Legesse Wolde, Manuel Ochoa, Tedi Osias, Robert Thomas, and Patrice Williams.
Meet AHC’s New Board Members

Miranda Lynch-Smith is the Chief Strategy Officer at Chapin Hall, an independent national policy research center dedicated to improving the well-being of children, families, and communities. She leads the organization’s strategic partnerships and policy agenda, helping translate evidence, policy, and lived experience into systems change and expanded opportunity.
A longtime Northern Virginia resident, Miranda previously served on the White House Domestic Policy Council and in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she led cross-government policy and research initiatives to strengthen child and family well-being, prevent child maltreatment and homelessness, expand early childhood investments, and improve economic mobility.
Throughout her career, she has worked at the intersection of policy, implementation, and evidence, helping public and nonprofit organizations translate vision into measurable community impact.

Jon McAvoy is the Chief Investment Officer at PRP Real Assets. In his role, Jon oversees the company’s acquisition, development management, and capital initiatives across all sectors to grow PRP’s portfolio of mission critical assets, multifamily and special situations properties.
Prior to PRP, Jon was the Chief Investment Officer of Hoffman & Associates, where he led the company’s financial division. In this role, Jon oversaw accounting, acquisitions, asset management, as well as corporate and project capitalization for the company’s $6B+ portfolio, including The Wharf, Seaboard Station in Raleigh and West Falls in Virginia. Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Jon worked for multiple Fortune 500 corporations, and his experience includes banking operations, multi-national corporate investment portfolio management, mortgage-backed securities trading, product development and credit analysis.
Jon graduated from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business with a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Trent Smith is a business leader dedicated to strengthening communities through strategic partnerships across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. He serves as an Executive Director at JPMorganChase, where he leads cross-functional initiatives that support the firm’s national expansion and advance strategic growth in new markets across the country.
Trent is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, and The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.
He began his career as a Teach For America educator and school administrator, experiences that shaped his commitment to community impact and collaborative leadership.
