As Volunteer Appreciation Month comes to a close, Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is recognizing the hundreds of volunteers who support our residents week after week.
On April 23, AHC invited volunteers to our annual volunteer celebration in Arlington for an evening of food, connection, and gratitude for the lasting impact they are making across AHC’s communities.
During the celebration, we honored milestone volunteers who have served with AHC for 5 and 10 years, as well as one special volunteer, AHC Board Chair Terron Sims, who has volunteered with AHC’s Teen program for 20 years.
At the event, Terron’s students surprised him by sharing how he’s impacted their lives.
“I just want to tell you how much I appreciate Mr. Terron for helping me with so many things. He has helped me with staying smart, confident, and being trustworthy …. I’m really grateful for the help he gives us.”
– Natalia, AHC student

We also honored AHC’s Rising Stars, our new volunteers who are already making a big difference in their communities.
Earlier in the month at Greenspring Overlook in Baltimore, our students put on their own celebration, giving presentations on what kind of volunteer they want to be, and then thanking the volunteers by doing some “volunteering” themselves by serving slices of pizza to everyone in attendance.
Over at Charter House in Silver Spring, residents, event volunteers, and partners honored the resident volunteers who play a key role in helping make community-building programs happen, like the weekly Coffee & Tea Socials, indoor gardening, Art Club, and more.
The volunteers in attendance at these events represented the more than 2,400 individuals who gave their time and talent to AHC in 2025 alone.
Thanks to the local companies that donated prizes for our volunteer raffle, including Good Company Doughnuts & Café, Simona Café, Lebanese Taverna, The Italian Store, Back Room Ceramics, and Vacation Lane Pottery.
And thank you to our amazing volunteers for joining us in keeping residents at the heart!
